Doc Forgey Welcomes the Boy Scouts of America

The fact that mosquitoes, ticks, flies and even water can spread disease -- very serious diseases -- is well known by everyone in the scouting community. Recently very effective and safe ways have been developed to prevent the spread of disease and to make us more comfortable during outdoor activities. These include safe formulations of DEET in a controlled release insect repellent, a very effective clothing treatment, and a personal water filter in a bottle.

Controlled Release formula insect repellent helps protect the skin from the DEET, yet keeps mosquitoes and ticks from biting. And you only have to apply it every 12 hours.

A permethrin tick repellent application to clothing, tents, and sleeping bags cuts down on biting and effectively prevents ticks and chiggers from biting. This stuff really lasts on your clothes. One application lasts six washings. Apply Permethrin to your tent, sleeping bag and the rest of your gear for maximum protection.

Water that appears to be clean may not be safe to drink. It's not always convenient or economical to carry along sufficient quantities of bottled water. Bottom line, Sawyer® water bottles provide an economical, convenient solution to making sure that you have clean, safe water wherever you go.

I have made myself famous by telling scary campfire stories for many years. But nothing is scarier than catching some of these diseases. Nothing can be more miserable than suffering from fly, chigger, tick, mosquito bites or Montezuma's Revenge. I hope you will have fun with some of the information and pictures that I will be posting. More importantly, I hope you learn one more bit of woodcraft technique that will make your outings more fun and safer!

Best wishes, Doc Forgery
